Mini Cooper Welding and Fabrication
A Rover Mini Cooper 40th Anniversary Edition has come in to our Classic Car Workshop for welding and fabrication work.
For a Classic Mini of this age, we found corrosion in the usual areas, around the sills.
On the underside of the car, the rear-subframe and front mounting panels were also showing signs of age with rust. The rear-subframe, mounting panels, and other panels within the area have been replaced with new.
New Heritage seals and kickboards have been fitted and welded to replace the old corroded parts. The lower rear quarter repair panels was fitted and welded in place, then given a coat of primer.
The front wings, A-panel and scuttle panel were removed, having being corroded. They were replaced using good quality Heritage replacement parts.
On the removal of both front and rear screens, further decay was exposed. The scuttle panel and front window lip, along with the rear window aperture to be replaced.
The bonnet aligned with a level gap to the Heritage wings. New Heritage front doors have been fitted along with the locking mechanisms.
The rear parcel shelf had corrosion and had to be cut out, it was replaced with a Heritage replacement parcel shelf. A new section was fabricated to replace the rear window aperture that had rusted away.
New rear subframe was reassembled using existing components. The floor of the boot and rear valance of the Mini Cooper was treated, primed, and finally stone chipped. The reassembled subframe was then reinstalled, and wheels put back on.
Bodywork went through some preparation work, before being sprayed with primer.
